What is Canna Companion?

WHAT IS CANNA COMPANION?

Canna Companion is the result of 15 years of research into the endocannabinoid system. By incorporating the scientific principles of veterinary medicine and pharmacology, combined with multidisciplinary research and our own testing and informal clinical trials, we have developed and refined Canna Companion to where it can be a part of your dog and cat’s holistic care.

WHAT’S INSIDE CANNA COMPANION?

Canna Companion is a unique blend of Cannabis sativa strains, frequently referred to as hemp, designed to enhance the medical benefits of the Cannabis plant while negating the ‘high-inducing’ capacity of THC.

Each capsule contains a combination of phytocannabinoids, the main group of compounds in hemp, terpenes which help to modulate phytocannabinoids, and flavonoids, potent anti-inflammatories which are found in a wide variety of foods we and our pets eat. In addition, our capsules offer omega 3 & 6 fatty acids and vitamin B6, the latter of which increases bioavailability.

All of these ingredients are naturally found in the cannabis plant and help provide holistic approach to your pet’s medication regimen.

Canna Companion is an all-natural non-GMO, hemp product using vegetable based capsules produced in Washington State by Veterinarians.

WHY HEMP?

The phytocannabinoid and terpene profiles in hemp work perfectly for pets. Due in part to their small body size, dogs and cats can take advantage of small amounts of CBD, THC and other cannabinoids found in hemp and can therefore reap the benefits of the most beneficial plant on earth. In addition, they respond to the relatively small or even trace amounts of omega fatty acids, B vitamins and various minerals naturally found in hemp.

Perhaps most importantly, when the entire cannabis plant is used, as opposed to individual components of the plant, an increase in health benefits and a decrease in adverse effects are observed. Some of the adverse effects possible in dogs and cats taking CBD only products, particularly those designed for human consumption, are extreme sedation or nausea and they do not offer the desired and most efficacious results that the “entourage effect” provides. The entourage effect results when the cannabis plants’ major phytocannabinoids and other components are permitted to work synergistically with each other, as nature intended.

HOW IS CANNA COMPANION ADMINISTERED

Canna Companion ideally should be administered on a full stomach as this helps ensure the highest rate of absorption from the GI tract. The capsule contents can be mixed into food or given whole orally just after a meal. Generally, cats need one capsule per day while dogs need a capsule twice daily. Most pets show a response within a week, but it can take up to two weeks for optimum response.

There are some common conditions and typical response times. Please note individual variation is expected and your dog or cat may respond in a short or longer time frame. Dosing adjustments are made based on your pet’s weight, condition(s), and individual response.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

  • The most common side effect is mild lethargy (due to CBD effects on the brain) which usually subsides in 3-4 days.
  • A less common side effect is softer stools and an increased bowel movement frequency (due to individual fiber sensitivities). Remember, we use the whole plant, and hemp is known for its high fiber content. A less frequent administration resolves the fiber sensitivity issue.
  • Rarely vomiting or increased skin sensitivity are seen, necessitating discontinuation of Cannabis-based products.
